Welcome to the 427 Transportation Corridor Website

The purpose of this website is to provide interested parties with access to information about the project and the Project Team that is carrying out the 427 Transportation Corridor Environmental Assessment (EA).

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is working to provide for the efficient movement of people and goods within the context of the province's Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe as released in July 2006.

The EA will follow the environmental planning process outlined in the 427 Transportation Corridor Environmental Assessment Terms of Reference (ToR) approved by the Minister of the Environment in November 2005 under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act (OEAA). To view the Terms of Reference document, please navigate to the EA Terms of Reference section of this website.

The EA Terms of Reference provides a framework for completing the EA study to address existing and short-term transportation problems related to the Highway 427 terminus, truck traffic to and from the CPR Vaughan Intermodal Facility, and inter-regional traffic on Highways 7, 27 and 50.

The EA will consider every phase of the planning process including:

  • The Need for the Undertaking
  • Alternatives to the Undertaking (fundamentally different ways of addressing the problem)
  • Alternative Methods (route alternatives)
  • Preferred Alternative (Preliminary Design)
  • Preparation of an Environmental Assessment Report
The results of the study will be documented in an Environmental Assessment Report. The Environmental Assessment Report will be submitted to the Ontario Minister of the Environment for an approval decision. In making a decision, the Ontario Minister of the Environment will undertake a formal public and agency review of the document.

We encourage you to review the contents of this website and provide us with your feedback. Additional information will be posted as the project progresses. Currently, we would like to draw your attention to the Background, Purpose, EA Process, Consultation, and Upcoming Events sections of this site.
