Welcome to the 427 Transportation Corridor Website
The purpose of this website is to provide interested parties with access to information about the project.
The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is working to provide for the efficient movement of people and goods within the context of the province's Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe as released in July 2006.
The EA has followed the environmental planning process outlined in the 427 Transportation Corridor Environmental Assessment Terms of Reference (ToR) approved by the Minister of the Environment in November 2005 under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act (OEAA). To view the Terms of Reference document, please navigate to the EA Terms of Reference section of this website.
The EA Terms of Reference provided a framework for completing the EA study to address existing and short-term transportation problems related to the Highway 427 terminus, truck traffic to and from the CPR Vaughan Intermodal Facility, and inter-regional traffic on Highways 7, 27 and 50.
The EA has considered every phase of the planning process including:
- The Need for the Undertaking
- Alternatives to the Undertaking (fundamentally different ways of addressing the problem)
- Alternative Methods (route alternatives)
- Preferred Alternative (Preliminary Design)
- Preparation of an Environmental Assessment Report (January 29, 2010)
The results of the study have been documented in an Environmental Assessment Report (January 29, 2010). A copy of the EA Report can be found under the Fact Sheets and Reports section of this website.
The EA Report was available for public review from January 29, 2010 to March 19, 2010. The Minister of the Environment has approved the project subject to some conditions of approval. The Minister’s decision, and details regarding the Ministry of the Environment review of the EA, can be accessed online at: http://www.ene.gov.on.ca/en/eaab/Documents/hwy427_NoA.pdf
Since the EA has been approved by the Minister of the Environment, the project may proceed to Detail Design and construction. Details regarding the construction schedule will be provided during Detail Design. Currently this project is not listed as part of the Southern Highways Program which is MTO's five-year investment plan in highway construction for Southern Ontario. The Southern Highway Program for 2010-2014 can be viewed online at: http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/pubs/highway-construction/southern-highway-2010/index.shtml. It is noteworthy that the 427 Study Corridor is listed as a “Planning for the Future” project http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/pubs/highway-construction/southern-highway-2010/projects-beyond-2014.shtml.
